Purpose

To advise on the registration and licensure of acupuncturists in the District of Columbia; to advise the Mayor; to administer and enforce the Act. Evaluate applicants' qualifications and administer exams; determine qualifications to practice specialties, recommend standards and procedures; issue licenses, receive and review complaints; request investigations; conduct hearings, issue subpoenas, examine witnesses, administer oaths, and issue annual report. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Three members, who must be DC residents at the time of appointment and throughout their service, appointed by the Mayor: one licensed physician trained and experienced in acupuncture, one licensed non-physician acupuncturist, and the Department of Health or his/her designee
