Appraisers, Board of
Purpose
To grant, suspend and revoke licenses, and conduct hearings. Administer and enforce provisions of law relating to the practice of real estate appraising; evaluate qualifications and credentials of applicants for licensure and certification; approve or disapprove applications for licensure; establish examinations criteria, administer or oversee the administration of examinations, issue subpoenas, examine witnesses and administer oaths; receive complaints and review allegations; conduct hearings; define continuing education requirements; initiate disciplinary actions. Members must file personal financial disclosure statement. Five members: four real estate appraisers and one consumer member who are DC residents appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the Council. Appraiser members first appointed must be members in good standing with a nationally recognized real estate appraisal organization for five consecutive years or have five years of documented experience as a real estate appraiser in DC. Subsequent real estate appraisal members must have been licensed or certified and engaged in the practice of real estate appraising for three years preceding appointment. The consumer member must not share a residence with, or be related to, an individual who is engaged in the practice of real estate appraising or who is licensed or certified or in training to become a real estate appraiser in the District.
