Purpose

MauTo regulate dentistry and dental hygiene in DC, to advise the Mayor, and to administer and enforce the Act. Evaluate qualifications; administer exams; recommend standards and procedures; issue licenses; receive and review complaints; request investigations; conduct hearings; and issue an annual report. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Seven DC residents appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council; one licensed dentist, one licensed dental hygienist and one consumer professional member, must have been in practice for at least 3 years preceding appointment. The consumer member must be at least 18 years old, not be a health professional or in training to become one and may have no household member who is involved directly or indirectly in providing health care. The Mayor appoints the chairperson.
