Metabolic Disorders, Committee on

Purpose

To provide for early identification of metabolic disorders in newborns in DC so that referral and treatment may be provided. To gather and disseminate information; consult with the public; evaluate needs; advise the Mayor; recommend single laboratory to screen tests for metabolic disorders; issue an annual report. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Ten members, including a chairperson, appointed by the Mayor: four consumers (two of whom are chosen from a list of five supplied by the DC Association for Retarded citizens), of whom none are health professionals or involved in administration or ownership of any health care institution or insurance organization or the spouse of a health professional, administrator or owner; five non-consumers, four of whom are licensed physicians knowledgeable in diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders, one of whom shall be either a geneticist or endocrinologist. The director of DHS or his/her designee serves as a non-voting member.
