Massage Therapy Board Maulid Miskell, 442-4764
To regulate the practice of massage therapy, including licensing massage therapists. Five members appointed by the Mayor; four massage therapists licensed in the District and one consumer member.
Medicine Board Jim Granger and Antoinette Stokes, 442-9200
Acupuncture, chiropractic, and physician assistants in DC; to advise the Mayor. To evaluate applicants' qualifications and administer exams; determine qualifications to practice specialties; recommend standards and procedures; issue licenses; receive and review complaints; request investigations; conduct hearings; issue subpoenas, examine witnesses and administer oaths; issue an annual report. Members file personal financial disclosure statements. Eleven DC residents appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. Seven physicians licensed in DC, who must have been engaged in practice for at least 3 years preceding appointment.
Mental Health Planning Council Richard Budson, 800-825-5445 x135
To advise the Mayor, director of DHS and the commissioner of mental health services on planning and implementation of services; serve as the State Mental Health Planning Council. Assist in development of mental health section of the DC Health Plan and DC Comprehensive State Mental Health Plan; make recommendations for and assist in implementation of DC comprehensive mental health system; serve as advocates for persons with severe mental illness or emotional problems; advise on responsiveness of system and utilization of resources; assist in public education and advise on public concerns, review legislation and expenditures under block grants. At least 15 members, including a chairperson, appointed by the Mayor, including a majority of consumer representatives or concerned citizens who are not providers or government employees, and representatives of private service providers and DC government. The non-government members must be DC residents.
Metabolic Disorders, Committee on Yvette Clinton Reid, 675-8082
To provide for early identification of metabolic disorders in newborns in DC so that referral and treatment may be provided. To gather and disseminate information; consult with the public; evaluate needs; advise the Mayor; recommend single laboratory to screen tests for metabolic disorders; issue an annual report. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Ten members, including a chairperson, appointed by the Mayor: four consumers (two of whom are chosen from a list of five supplied by the DC Association for Retarded citizens), of whom none are health professionals or involved in administration or ownership of any health care institution or insurance organization or the spouse of a health professional, administrator or owner; five non-consumers, four of whom are licensed physicians knowledgeable in diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders, one of whom shall be either a geneticist or endocrinologist. The director of DHS or his/her designee serves as a non-voting member. |
