Barber and Cosmetology Board

To license and regulate barbers, cosmetologists, and specialty cosmetologists; grant, suspend and revoke licenses for registrations. Advise, administer examinations approve licenses, receive and review complaints, request investigations, hold hearings and render decisions. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Nine members appointed by the Mayor. Practitioner members must have been engaged and/or licensed in the practice of barbering, cosmetology, or specialty cosmetology (braiding, manicuring, esthetics, or electrology) for the three-year period immediately preceding appointment, except for consumer member. Board includes three cosmetologists, three barbers, two specialty cosmetologists, and one consumer member.

Boxing and Wrestling Commission, DC

To regulate boxing, wrestling, kick boxing and the martial arts in DC; license and inspect training facilities. Issue rules and regulations, licenses and permits, and issue quarterly reports to the Mayor and Council. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Three members appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the Council. The Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Council, appoints one member as chairperson.

Building Code Advisory Committee

To advise the Mayor and government on meeting present day demands for adequate and safe construction and maintenance of new and existing buildings through comprehensive and up-to-date codes and regulations. Review codes and regulations in accordance with DC laws, to reflect the current state of the art in the construction industry, and advise the Mayor and appropriate agencies of the government through DCRA. The Mayor designates organizations, associations, unions, universities, and businesses that have expertise or interest in codes to be represented on the committee. Each is invited to make no more than two nominations for appointment. At least half the members must be DC residents. The Mayor shall appoint members representing appropriate DC agencies.
