Early Childhood Development Mary Mason, 727-1839
To bring together public and private agencies and individuals concerned with early childhood development to develop plans and coordinate services. Serve as advocates for improvement of programs; make recommendations to the Mayor, review and comment on legislation, procedures and issues; and issue an annual report. Thirty members and a chairperson, appointed by the Mayor: 20 from non-governmental agencies in early childhood development, three at-large members and eight representatives of DC government.

Educational Licensure Commission Marilyn Thornton, 442-4343
To license private post-secondary educational institutions, both degree-granting and non-degree schools and their agents; ensure their authenticity and legitimacy, serve as state approving agency for veterans programs; advise on post-secondary educational and vocational needs in DC; and maintain student records of closed schools. Recommend policy, adopt standards, rules and regulations; grant licenses and conditional exemptions; issue quarterly reports, conduct inspections and on site evaluations; issue transcripts from student records for closed institutions; and comply with rules governing conflicts of interest. Election and Ethics Board Linda Johnson, 727-0207
To administer and enforce the provisions governing the DC election Act and the DC campaign finance reform Act. Conduct elections and certify results, register and inform voters, qualify candidates and measures for the ballot, and issue orders, rules and regulations. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Three members, no more than two of who shall be of the same political party, appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. Members must be qualified electors in DC, resident in the District continuously for at least 3 years prior to appointment and may hold no other paid office or employment in the DC or federal governments. Members are barred from any kind of political activity during their term of office. The Mayor selects the chairperson.
Electrical Board 442-4320
To license or bond persons, firms, and corporations engaged in or employed by the electrical business in DC. Grant, suspend, and revoke licenses and conduct hearings. Members must file personal financial disclosures statements. Five members and five alternates appointed by the Mayor: four members and four alternates shall have been actively engaged in the electrical business in DC for at least the 5 years prior to appointment. Of these, two members and two alternates shall be owners or managers, and two members and two alternates shall be employees competent to superintend the performance of work. Additional members are DC government employees. Only one member may have a financial interest in or be employed by any person, firm, or corporation.
Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee Sherry Adems, 442-9111
To advise the Mayor on Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Advise on the EMS Plan, standards and regulations, advise on public information programs, data collection systems and coordination of EMS; review the annual EMS report; and provide advice to the Emergency Ambulance Bureau. Twenty-eight members, including a chairperson, appointed by the Mayor, including one representative of each hospital designated as a trauma center and representatives of professional organizations and institutions, private ambulance providers, labor, government, consumers, and the community, including the elderly, handicapped, emotionally disturbed and Spanish-speaking residents. The Commissioner of Public Health is an ex-officio member.
Employee Appeals Board Deborah Reeves, 727-0004
To adjudicate appeals from District government employees. Issue subpoenas, rules, and regulations; appoint and remove employees; publish final decisions; and issue annual report. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Five members, appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the Council, who do not hold any other position in the DC government and have a demonstrated knowledge concerning personnel management and labor relations and have a reputation for impartiality and integrity in the discharge of responsibilities. The Mayor appoints a member as chairperson.
Employee Compensation Appeals Board 724-7113
To make administrative decisions on appeals taken from determinations and awards with respect to claims of employees. Consider and decide appeals by application of pertinent laws, rules and regulations, in accordance with the regulations promulgated by the US Secretary of Labor. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Three members, including a chairperson, appointed by the Mayor.
Engineers, Board of Professional 442-4320
To license and regulate professional engineers. To grant, suspend, and revoke licenses registrations; establish policies, standards, regulations, and procedures; develop, administer, and grade examinations and determine eligibility; conduct hearings. Members must file financial disclosure statements. Five members appointed by the Mayor, including at least one representative each of chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Members must be US citizens and shall have been engaged in the practice of engineering for 12 or more years, of which at least 5 years shall have been in responsible charge of important engineering work. At the time of appointment, members must have been actively engaged in the practice of engineering in DC for at least the 5 years preceding appointment. |
