Veterinary Examiners Board

To advise the Mayor on examination, licensure, registration, and regulations of veterinarians, veterinary establishments, and standards of conduct and ethics; undertake other duties assigned. Seven members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council: two consumers, who are at least 18 of age, and five veterinarians licensed in DC, who are residents of DC and have practiced veterinary medicine in DC for a minimum of 3 years prior to appointment. No members may be associated with any school of veterinary medicine. The Mayor appoints the chairperson. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements.

Violence Against Women

Advise the Mayor and recommend policy and program strategies for the reduction of violence against women in the District of Columbia; serve as the administrative agency for receipt and management of funds under the Violence Against Women Act or any other Federal or local funds designated for the reduction of violence against women. Assess and advise the Mayor on the adequacy of existing District policies for providing community-based services to women victims of rape, stalking, sexual abuse, gender discrimination, domestic violence, battering, and all other acts of assault including physical, mental, and verbal abuse; recommend specific programs and actions to be taken, and the resources needed within the next five and 10 years to reduce violence against women; monitor and evaluate effectiveness of programs and services; and promote public awareness about violence against women. Not less than 30 members, appointed by the Mayor. Public members shall include representatives from each ward, and from the women's advocacy, religious, business, education, military, medical services communities, and non-profit providers. Ex-officio voting members are: Directors of DHS and DHCD, Executive Director of Commission for Women, MPD Chief, Corporation Counsel, US Attorney for the District, DCPS Superintendent, and Parole Board chair. The Mayor may appoint ex-officio non-voting; and appoints the chairperson and vice chairperson.
