Arts and Humanities, Commission on the
Purpose
To act concerning needs of DC residents for activities in the arts and humanities; encourage the development and improvement of such activities. Formulate an annual plan; serve as state agency for the National Foundation on Arts and Humanities Act make grants; accept gifts; appoint advisory panels; adopt policies on grant reviews; appoint an executive director; and establish procedures to guard against conflicts of interest. Members must file personal financial disclosure statements. Eighteen members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. Members must have displayed an interest or ability in the arts or humanities in DC. Appointments ensure representation of all the geographic areas and neighborhoods in DC. The Mayor appoints one member as chairperson.
